Bermuda Grass

Cynodon dactylon (Hariyali, Haridi, Arugampul)

Bermuda grass (Hariyali), Cynodon dactylon, is a creeper; grows spreading over the soil like a mat. Its root system is deep and may grow deeper even to 4 to 5 feet in drought situations. Though the grass has got erect, flat stems of 15 inches or more, they spread on ground with long, sharp and rough edged lush grayish green leaves.

Medicinal Uses: Antiseptic, diuretic, astringent, anabolic.

When taken internally, the plant juice controls dysentery and diarrhea. It stimulates urination. External application of plant juice on wounds and cuts is beneficial in faster healing. The root extract is useful in treating bleeding piles. The leaf juice is used in treatment of hysteria, epilepsy and insanity.

This is a folk remedy for many diseases like hyper tension, head ache, calculus, cancer, coughs, cramps, tumors etc. Hence, this is considered as an herbal drink to keep the body healthy.
